The bakery in the country of Gorone is a downtown bakery loved by the locals, King's Hideaway House. Since they are open only until 5:00 p.m., they introduced SPACER lockers so that more customers can use their bakery after business hours. In this interview, we asked them about the background to the introduction of SPACER Locker and how they are using it after the introduction.
Please tell us about the background of your decision to introduce lockers.
Since we close for business as early as 5:00 p.m., we often received comments from customers that we are always closed. That is when we decided to introduce a system that would allow customers to pick up their reserved items even after business hours.
How many companies did you consider when introducing the system? Please tell us why you chose SPACER lockers among them.
We considered various methods of unlocking store doors as well as locker shapes. In addition to the bakery, the café we operate had already introduced a system to open the store's door lock with a transportation IC card in order to provide a room-sharing type of service. We considered the possibility of introducing this system here as well, but decided against it because of the difficulty of the procedure for automatic doors. Then we decided to install lockers because we thought it would be smarter to simply place the lockers and open the door. The most attractive thing about lockers is that they can be placed outdoors!
What is the flow of locker usage?
The customer selects an item from the reservation site, adds the locker to the cart, the store sends a URL for the key to the customer's LINE or SMS, the customer pays with the SPACER app, unlocks the locker, and receives the item.
You have carefully described how to use the lockers on your website, but what other steps have you taken to inform your customers?
POPs with explanations are posted on lockers and flyer boxes are also provided.
Also, for customers who say, "I always come here only after the store closes," we give them a flyer saying, "If you ever need to use the store after hours again, please use this one," because once they visit the store, they will know what kind of bread we have available.
What feedback have you received from customers using the lockers since they were introduced?
They say it is convenient to pick up after work because they can pick up after business hours.
As part of infection control measures, I assume that you enter the restaurant one pair at a time. I understand that customers can pick up items at lockers even during business hours. Is there an advantage for customers to use lockers [to pick up items without waiting]?
Unlike receiving dry cleaning items at a locker, in the case of a bakery [the enjoyment of choosing] is one of the main reasons for coming to the store, so many customers prefer to come if the store is open.
There is another reason why the lockers are available for pickup during business hours as well, We encourage customers who are anxious about opening their lockers after hours to try using them during business hours when our staff is available to eliminate any concerns they may have.
